About this journal
Kalbarri National Park is one of those Western Australian places that photographs too well and explains itself too poorly. Nature’s Window looks like a postcard. The Loop can feel like a furnace. The Skywalk is a short, engineered walk; the river trails are not. Coastal cliffs are generally free and still dangerous. We started this journal because those distinctions keep getting flattened into a single “must see” list.
The original kalbarrinationalpark.com domain sat on the public web as a generic website-builder placeholder. Wayback Machine snapshots from 2021–2022 show a Sitebeat template — a phone number that was still 555-555-5555 — not a park guide. This rebuild treats the domain as what the name always implied: an independent visitor publication for Kalbarri National Park on Nanda Country.
What we are not
We are not the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, Explore Parks WA, or the Kalbarri Visitor Centre. We do not sell park passes, take bookings, or speak for Traditional Owners. Fees, Loop heat closures and track status change. Verify them on the official park page and DBCA alerts before you drive inland.
How we write
Pieces are long on purpose. A 1,000-word walk brief should tell you whether to turn around at the Window, whether a van can stay hitched, and how the gorge temperature parts company with the town forecast. We write in Australian English, link related guides, and keep navigation as ordinary links a search engine can follow. Read our editorial standards and image credits.
Contributing
Walkers, rangers’ neighbours, naturalists and photographers who know this park are invited to pitch. See write for us for guest-post guidelines. Paid or guest-post links are marked rel="sponsored".
